May 5, 2025, the Trump administration has enlisted Palantir Technologies to build a federal database that could centralize and track information on millions of US citizens. This effort is connected to a March executive order signed by President Trump, which aimed to facilitate data sharing across federal agencies. Agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, and United States Department of Health and Human Services have reportedly begun the process of channeling sensitive data into this central database. Palantir's involvement in this project has sparked considerable concern from privacy advocates and others, who fear it could lead to mass surveillance and misuse of data. However, supporters of the plan argue that it could lead to increased government efficiency and fraud detection.

Regarding authorization, Palantir has been granted FedRAMP High Authorization for its cloud service offerings, which allows the U.S. government to process highly sensitive unclassified workloads in Palantir's cloud. This authorization indicates that Palantir's systems meet stringent security requirements for handling sensitive data. Their platforms are designed to securely handle various types of sensitive information, including financial data, Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Protected Health Information (PHI).

Palantir’s cofounder, Peter Thiel (former partner of Elon Musk in PayPal), is a known mega donor for Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. Deborah Birx, the Trump COVID "granular expert" who allegedly ran lockdown policy recommendations, is on the board of Palantir.
